How would you describe the greatness of a person when he is incomparable? Maybe a metaphor would justify his larger-than-life character. But then a metaphor of what class and generation? Your mind would simply embark on a journey of emotions when you soulfully explore the life of the Late Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian — the Founder of Sri Balaji Society (SBS), the Creator of Sri Balaji University, Pune (SBUP) , and the craftsman of many lives.
A soldier by heart and a warrior by soul, Late Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian was also a trainer, consultant, gifted writer, author and pioneer who conceived the idea of creating the first Post Graduate Management Institute in India exclusively for Defence Personnel and their dependents. Also, his contributions had been instrumental in setting up the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS).

Early Life and Journey
Born in a poor family, (Col.) Bala fought against all odds to complete his education. He joined the Indian Army as a Sepoy and retired as a Subedar after 28 years of service to the nation. While wearing the uniform, he acquired three post-graduate degrees with flying colours.
Late Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian was the first Indian from the Armed Forces, in the history of India, to be conferred the Honorary Rank of Colonel after retirement. He is amongst the privileged few to have received this honour alongwith famous sportsmen like Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Abhinav Bindra, Mahender Singh Dhoni, and the famous actor Mohanlal.

A firm believer in the values of Discipline, Determination, and Dedication, he inspired and inculcated these values in the students of Sri Balaji University. Standing firm on his values, he overcame mountains of obstacles to establish Sri Balaji University, Pune. Today, SBUP runs four prestigious management institutes on one huge campus in Pune, well-known as Balaji Institute of Modern Management (BIMM), Balaji Institute of Technology and Management (BITM), Balaji Institute of International Business (BIIB), and Balaji Institute of Management & HRD (BIMHRD). Along with these MBA programmes, SBUP also carries out several UG programmes with various specialisations in BBA, BA, and BCA.
We also offer a PG programme in MCA. The other colleges - Balaji College of Arts, Commerce & Science (BCACS), Balaji Junior College of Arts, Commerce & Science (BJCACS) provide education to undergraduate students. More than 26,000 alumni of Sri Balaji University, Pune, are efficiently working in the corporate world, across the globe. Many of them are successfully running their businesses or are leading organisations in their senior management roles. And all this and much more, the credit goes to none other than our Founder President & Chancellor, Late Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian.
